Short answer, its not possible to change the default listening port of the built in VNC server. We are continually updating the encoding engine based on new hardware available from windows and mac devices. I spent a significant amount of time on this one myself. I do know we are updating our agent engine in a month with some further optimization on performance so I do welcome you to give Splashtop another try in a month.
This will bring up a dialog box headed Connect To Server and in the top under Server Address: type :-vnc://#VNC SERVER FOR MAC MAC OS X#
Connecting From Mac OS X In the Finder select the Go menu and choose the Connect To Server menu option.

On Windows, the performance is well optimized due to hardware vendors tend to support WIndows drivers better than MAC drivers.
